I have always been mildly obsessed with food. I can thank/blame my mother for this, as she fed me a wide variety of crazy healthy food in my first two years of life.
Once, while (very) pregnant with our first child, my husband grabbed a burrito on his way home and neglected to bring one for me. I called him every name in the book, the most memorable being a version of this site’s title that isn’t suitable for repeating in this space.
I now use that term affectionately, believe it or not, and it seemed a perfectly suited name for the place where I rant about food and health and all things related.
I don’t subscribe to any one set of food rules. That said, I think the Paleo premise makes sense, Primal and WAPF even more so. Chris Kresser and his take on everyone’s Personal Paleo Code is pretty amazing. Can’t leave out my boyfriend Michael Pollan, who hits the nail on the head, every. single. time.
But, if there was one book I wish I could give every person in the world to read, it would be The Perfect Health Diet. Smart, no nonsense, straightforward. Book is an absolute life-changer, blog is pretty amazing as well.
Recommendations aside: I am a (smart) woman and I reserve the right to change my mind (and I frequently do so as I wade through research). So, stay tuned. I’m in for the long haul.
What the fork is this site all about? Choices. I spend an inordinate about of time researching all things food and health and I want to be able to present you with information to help you make choices for yourself to improve your health, energy levels, and overall balance.
The goal here is to provide this information in a way that won’t overwhelm. I’ll give you the cliff notes version, and then provide you with resources and links should you want to learn more. I’ll share my favorite recipes, focusing on things that are nutrient dense and seasonally inspired. I’ll provide tips and easy ways to limit toxin exposure, balance hormones, and increase mental clarity.
And if I call you a pigforkr, consider it a compliment.
